Job Details: This position is responsible for providing legal advice with respect to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and related regulations, advisories and other guidance, and for directing the activities of the HIPAA Office. The position is responsible for review, analysis and negotiation of business associate, trading partner and other contracts necessary or appropriate in connection with HIPAA compliance. The position is responsible for analysis of ongoing HIPAA compliance by the organizations and advice as to new requirements and interpretations of existing requirements.
Education: A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
Required Licensure, Certification: Member in good standing of the Maryland Bar.
Knowledge: A professional level of knowledge of legal practices and procedures. In-depth knowledge in the areas of contract law, compliance principles and HIPAA. Knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes and regulations which affect privacy and confidentiality also is required.
Skills: Highly developed analytical legal skills, an ability to communicate and demonstrated interpersonal skills. The ability to manage effectively a very high volume of work. Demonstrated ability to read and understand contracts and contractual provisions, as well as applicable statutory and case law, and ability to translate the same to non-lawyers. Ability to draft documentation of substantial complexity.
Work Experience: At least five (5) years of experienced practice at the Bar.
