Amcor PET Packaging is currently seeking a Quality/Materials Manager for their Dunkirk, NY facility.

This analytical professional directs the quality assurance program for the plant and supervises the quality control lead and technicians in: laboratory testing, inspection, statistical process control and salvage operations. Supervise the plants quality management system to improve business operating systems and meet the requirements of customer and best practice audits. Lead/assist with corrective action(s) in quality related problems at the plant and/or customer location and oversee start-up of new products/processes. Assist in troubleshooting technical problems. The Quality Manager will oversee document and data control and handle control of customer supplied materials. Supervise product identification and traceability internal quality audits (housekeeping, GMP, etc.) Establish statistical process control (SPC) programs and advise local managers in utilization of SPC data.

Provide consistent ongoing analysis of process capability (CPK) statistics. Control hold for inspection (HFI) procedures to ensure nonconforming materials do not enter the production process. Supervise hourly personnel at the assigned location(s). The successful incumbent will also assure required level(s) of quality through visual inspection, statistical sampling and laboratory testing of materials and evaluate operator and technicians tests section weights, wall thickness, dimensional characteristics, banding tension, stretch wrap usage and load to force, etc. Process scrap materials including bottle/preform salvage and regrind, corrugated salvage and other materials.

Lead quality initiatives and procedures to ensure best-in-class practices are maintained and serve as local contact for external audit programs (AIB, HACCP). Serve as the plant representative in dealing with customer complaints or quality problems. Travel as required to customer locations to ascertain the nature of problems and their impacts. Design, implement, and coordinate training programs for managers, staff and employees. Manage quality department supplies and expense budget to ensure spending is cost effective.

The Manager also oversees the procurement of raw materials and supplies to maintain targeted inventory levels and receive customer orders as well as schedule shipment, production and finished goods inventory. Prepare daily production shipment and inventory reports and work with vendors to improve costs and delivery times. Perform periodic physical inventory and reconciliation of raw materials, and manage shipping/receiving operation.


Requirements:

Must have great communication skills with all levels of employees, management and vendors. Advanced personal computer skills are a must. (Excel and Graytech for SPC).

A Bachelors degree in a technical discipline is preferred with five years of related experience in a quality assurance leadership role in a manufacturing organization. Experience in blow molding manufacturing is required with knowledge of SPC and blueprints. Experience with ISO 9000/QS 9000 quality systems is ideal.

Membership in American Society for Quality, ASQ, Certified Quality Engineer, CQE and /or Certified Quality Manager, CQM is also appreciated.
